Ellen's Story

I am married to a wonderful man who had 6 children. Between us we have 8 kids, 21 grandkids, 7 great-grandkids. We are family oriented. I have travelled to Canada, Russia and China as well as many vacations throughout the United States. My husband is from Colorado, so we spend a lot of time in the West. I am only missing about 4 states that I've not been through. I'm still striving to see Europe and maybe some of South America. I'd also like to go on a cruise. I never lived in a dorm but I worked hard and put myself through college while raising two kids. I'm proud to say that my kids both went to college also. I worked at AT&T Phone Company and M.J. Grove Lime Company before I settled in to the U.S. Dept. of Energy. I retired from there after 28 years and now absolutely enjoy retirement. The wierdest job I ever had was taking care of a race horse from 4:00 a.m. until after the race in the evening. Very long days, very little pay, and questionable company. Since retirement, I have gotten back into sewing and have learned much about quilting and embroidery techniques. I love making quilts as well as special requests from my family. I also enjoy playing cards, visiting with friends, and having craft days with some of my classmates from good ole MAHS. My favorite teachers were Mrs. Margret Miller and Mrs. Butler. They were both wonderful teachers as well as great role models. Several of my oldest friend ...Expand for more
and I have known each other since the first grade. We've always been friends throughout the years although we didn't stay in touch for all of them. Having wonderful friends is like having family you get to select. Many more of my friends came from the Winfield Elementary School when we entered junior high school.. One of my favorite childhood memories was having a Halloween Party in our barn for the GirlScouts. (Peggy, Suzanne, Susan, Carol, were some of these Girl Scouts). Another favorite memory was having my friends over to go horseback riding. (Beaver, Peggy, Susan, and Carol Ann) I used to think that living in town were for "rich" kids while we "poor" farm kids didn't have the advantages of living near everything. As live has gone on, I have learned that the farm live was a wonderful blessing in so many ways. I also found out that the "town kids" would have given their eye teeth to live on the farm. Looking back from my advancing age, when I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be ancient. I was so completely wrong...we're still young at heart. Life doesn't turn out the way you expect...I would have never expected to be married three times. All I ever wanted is a happy marriage. It took three tries to finally get it right. For the most part, my life is wonderful and each part of it created the person I am today. I am truly blessed. I would love to hear from my classmates and friends from my past..
